2011 in Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

I wanted to share this as a way of giving thanks. I’ll be back to writing soon. My deepest thanks to the family of readers of Glory to God for All Things. I cannot express how close you are to my heart and how much you mean to me! Richest blessings in the New Year and the Feast of St. Basil the Great!

Beneath His mercy,

Fr. Stephen +

Here’s an excerpt:

London Olympic Stadium holds 80,000 people. This blog was viewed about 530,000 times in 2011. If it were competing at London Olympic Stadium, it would take about 7 sold-out events for that many people to see it.

Well, yes, the numbers are impressive, but the richness and fullness of Father Stephen’s posts and replies go way beyond what one might glean at a typical Olympic Stadium event. Not apples and oranges, but apples and a one-storey universe.

I think the figures reflect your always thought-provoking and often humbling posts. Not only that, but you have attracted a following of well-informed and interesting commentators.

    Blessings for the forthcoming year.

Thank you for your time and effort in creating this blog: your postings greatly assisted me in my journey with Christ.

    Lynne,
I pray that the posts hold to that. It’s where I hope to live my life – both when I write – and when breathe, eat and drink, etc. Best of the New Year!

The truth is difficult. I will continue to share the truth here – the truth God has given me. I generally do not engage in polemical conversation (except when I do). In my experience, argument and logical apologetic are almost never effective in the cause of the Gospel – it’s more mysterious than that. Thus, they play a role, but not the one we think. And last, it is the Gospel (which utterly transcends our logical efforts) which will save the world and all that are in it. I pray for us in this New Year.

Thank you, Father. Your blog has been a blessing to many.

(On the other hand, I’m a bit uncomfortable to learn that I am reported to be the “most active” commenter on the blog. :-P)

May God speed your recovery. A very happy 2012 to you and yours!

    Karen,
I note your comments with joy! I think of you as a partner in conversation (though there must be a more proper Orthodox term – I will consider this) without which the blog would not be what it is. Many thanks, and many years!

We love you, Father Stephen. We will be praying and looking for your “occasional” posts. I am awed by your humility and faithfulness and example. We think of you and pray for you often.

    Father,
I would like to wish you a speedy recovery.
You were greatly missed this last week, since reading through your blog became a daily ritual to me, even though I do not make any comments usually.
Thank you for your efforts to share your thoughts with us. I know I am merely repeating what many others have said before me: please keep posting, we need it!!!

‘Glory to God for all things’ is one of the few internet spaces I delight in visiting. I give thanks to God that you can maintain a space so full of an irenic, kind, and gentle spirit, while continuing to generate such thoughtful reflection and discussion that so many (thousands!) can benefit from.
I pray you continue to live what you preach; it is palpable and makes all the difference.
Much love and thanks, and indeed Glory to God for all things!

    -Mark Basil
