   Yes, Fr. Stephen, we pray for them all!

   Fr. Huneycutt at Orthodixie has posted some good prayers to remember at this time, beginning with the following:

   O Lord Jesus Christ

   As you saved your apostles from perishing in a storm by calming wind and waves on you command, so now keep us safe and sound in this hurricane season. Grant us favorable and benign weather. Protect us from the unpredictable elements of nature. Steer us from storm, flood, fire, illness, injury, disaster and sudden death. Preserve us from all evil and harm for we, though sinful, are nonetheless the work of Your hands. And You together with your Father who has no beginning and Your all holy good and life giving Spirit are our God in whom we live, move, and have being. Now and ever and unto ages and ages. Amen.

    Dear Father – We will keep all in our prayers! Having just spend several nerve racking days directly in the path of Hurricane Dolly, which was only a Category 2 storm, I can’t imagine staying in place – no matter how “hurricane proof” the home – during a Category 4 event! Lord have mercy and save them!

    It’s 7:30 AM, and we’re having occasional gusts of wind with some rain.

    Earlier, after morning prayers, I came across these verses in Psalm 68/69:

    Let not the waterflood overflow me,
    neither let the deep swallow me up,
    and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

    Hear me, O LORD;
    for thy loving-kindness is good:
    turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

    We appreciate the prayers of all!

    I received a text message this morning from my daughter saying, “Now it all begins…”

    I replied with some words of an old Quaker hymn: “No storm can shake my inmost calm, while to that Rock I’m clinging, if Love is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?” wikipedia says it was written by an American Baptist. Pete Seeger learned a version that came from folk stock and has been more widely sung and attributed to the Quakers. That’s all I know about that.

    It’s a favorite in my household.
