Post received
I received this test (have not been receiving new post notices recently).
Thanks!
It’s been a problem over the past couple of weeks and my IT person was out of town for most of that time. Serious work going on today involving the servers and the plug-in’s. It’s all over my head – but my IT person is on top of it today. I hope we get things back to normal soon. I just like to write without much thought about what’s under the hood.
For those who might wonder – this is what donations go for – to pay for hosting, maintenance and such, equipment for my use.
Thanks, Ben
Received test
Hadn’t heard from you in a while. I was rereading your last post last night and began to be concerned for you. Relieved and grateful to see “test” today
I’m subscribed to the blog, but it seems I miss some email notifications. This one came thorough fine.
Patricia,
Yes. It was a bad time of year for problems to crop up. They seem to have started on July 4…We’ll be doing things and correcting things over the rest of the day…possibly longer…depending on things beyond our control.
Test arrived OK.
This one came into my email subscription, also, Father.
Dee,
How quickly does your comment appear?
If this were a real emergency…
It works OK for me.
Got it. Looks like you had help from an expert!
I’ll time it
Well now it’s immediately. Earlier today it was about 15-20 minutes.
Dee,
That’s encouraging!
Dee,
I am pleased to hear this. It means that stuff is getting fixed.
Just testing again
How quickly did your comment post?
Yep a few seconds lag
About 5-10 seconds
More like 5 seconds after the Capta check
Dee,
The robots get through much quicker…
Really like your blog. I read everything you post.
Ha😄👍
It looks like your test worked. I got it. Always appreciate you, Fr. Stephen!
I receive emails when comments are posted, but I don’t receive the email of the original article.
Receiving you loud and clear!
Arrived at the far corner of the world, New Zealand 🙂
Since we are discussing technical matters, may I suggest putting an email somewhere on the site that can be used to contact your IT role directly for any technical matter?
I promise I will not submit 500 suggestions. 🙂
👍 🙏
Test Received in UK
Ook,
I’ll pass the suggestion along.
Since we´re talking technology …
I remember some time ago we discussed adding an edit button for already posted comments to be corrected if necessary. Mark said this would be too difficult to implement. I´m wondering if that is still the case?
Matthew,
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that option as an available thing. The blog uses a WordPress flatform. So, you kind of pick features and use them, rather than deciding what features you might like and having them “built.”
One aspect of my blog that is a bit of a difficulty is that there are over 2500 articles and well-over 100,000 comments. That means that it’s a hefty bit of baggage resting on a server. In addition, there are around 1 million views a year, which, for a blog, is a lot of traffic. That requires a lot of server space.
When Ancient Faith decided to stop hosting blogs, we had to move it, which was a major undertaking (particularly for my behemoth). My “IT” person is my youngest daughter who has a Web business (design, marketing, etc.). She is kind enough to do this work for gratis – but she has a very full time job (running her own company). So…we do what we can.
I have to admit that for me, it’s the writing and interactions that matter. When I first created the blog, it was easy to maintain everything myself…not realizing that with time, I would need help.
Next year will be the 20th year – I’m thinking about possible ways to mark that occasion. Prayers for my health…for our patience…and thanksgiving for all things!
Thanks so much Fr. Stephen. Wow … 20 years!
Matthew, I’m no longer an IT guy but: while there are out of the box plugins available, for a site like this I would prefer to budget 2 days of developer time (to address optimization and caching issues for the WordPress database). May or may not be worthwhile.
Ook,
I work with what I’ve got. But I understand your thoughts.
